Breeding Differences

Can anyone answer this please. Is there a difference in the look of the dog, e.g., leg and body length, coat, head shape, and so on, if the dog has been bread for working or for a companion dog? I have been told recently that my dog Sammy is a working dog because he is tall, long legged and very sleek, good for jumping hedges and bushes . I would have thought long rather than short legs are more useful for this. Hope it's not a silly question and I hope you can answer it. Many thanks, just in case. Shaynie.
