Chronic Diarrhea in 3 yr old Golden we adopted from a rescue org

by Lynn
(Ironwood, MI)

We were told he had a "problem", but was ok after switching him to grain free dog food. We followed their advice; Harley eats Diamond lamb and rice (no wheat/corn), but also gets a few table scraps mixed in. He'll go a few days with normal stools and then it's the "squirts" again. We also had to deal with tape worm and fleas when we got him and finally got that eliminated. Our very old labbie eats what Harley eats and is fine. He's started pulling out his tail hair! Any suggestions or comments before we call our vet? I'd like to have some background info so I can ask intelligent questions to help our vet in any way I can. Harley is an awesome dog and we are VERY happy he's in our lives! Thanks for any help/suggestions!

chronic diarrhea in Golden Ret.
by: Lynn

Kathy, thanks so much for the advice! The pumpkin did the trick! Also, we eliminated any fat (from table scraps) that we used to mix into his dog food. He'd already been on a grain free diet, so we had ruled out allergies. Thanks again!

Help for diarrhea

You should always start by visiting your vet first. Out puppy had the "squirts" for six months before we discovered PUMPKIN. Add about a tablespoon of just plain canned pumpkin puree to you dogs regular meals and watch the magic. We also switched to Blue Buffalo dog food which has no allergens in it. We've been squirt free for over six months now and it's great. Good luck.
