Dog Food
by Elizabeth
I currently have my Golden puppy on large breed puppy formula and will be switching her in a few weeks (she'll be 8 months) to adult formula. Should she be on large breed adult formula or does that not matter?

Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks so much for writing to us.
I think that while keeping your puppy on a large breed puppy formula was a great idea, she should now be switched to a regular adult dog food, rather than a large dog breed adult formula.
My reasoning is as follows -- the purpose of the large breed puppy formula is to prevent the puppy from growing too fast and damaging the puppy. However, once fully grown, Goldens, while being a good size, are not really extremely large dogs (such as Great Danes, Mastiffs, St. Bernards etc.), and do not share some of the health issues that these large dogs have through life. As such, regular high quality adult dog food is a good choice for Goldens.

Enjoy your 8 month old puppy -- what a great age!
