Dog Food

by Vicki
(Florida)

We have a 8 mo old female golden and we feed her Iams Eukenuba dry puppy food which she has eaten with no problem. We also have an older Sheltie which I add some shredded chicken and rice to his dry. I feed them in different rooms but when hes done she goes in and licks his bowl. Lately she has been finicky when i give her food and doesn't gobble it up as fast and doesn't eat all of it. I'm wondering if she knows hes getting something different, or just bored with her food, or if this is a sign she will be going into heat?

Response from Golden Retriever Magic:

It is likely that your young Golden has figured out that she is not getting the same food as the Sheltie. Goldens are curious by nature and will get into anything and everything, especially when food is involved!

Try changing her food and see if she eats well again. Just like us humans, even dogs can get bored with their food and switching the food can help them eat well again.

Keep in mind though that if she has not been eating well for a while, you should take her to the vet to make sure there is no concern to her health.
