Symptoms of A Dog With Diarrhea
The primary symptom displayed by a dog with diarrhea are frequent, soft or liquid stools. Many times, your dog will have an episode or two of diarrhea and it will resolve for good.
However, sometimes the diarrhea persists and can be associated with more dangerous symptoms. It is important to familiarize yourself with the symptoms that act as alarm signals, alerting you that something serious may be going on.
The following symptoms associated with acute diarrhea are cause for concern and I would recommend immediate veterinarian assistance if your dog has any of these:
Bright red blood in the stool
Black stool (truly charcoal black, not necessarily just dark)
Abdominal pain or tenderness
Abdominal bloating/fullness
Vomiting in addition to the diarrhea
Fever (measured by a rectal thermometer)
Lethargy or listlessness
Also, remember that the older your dog is, the more chances a serious underlying condition is present. This applies to very young puppies as well. So, if you Golden is quite advanced in age or is just a puppy, also consider early evaluation by a veterinarian.
