Exercise

by Sherry Livingston
(Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada)

I have an 11 month old golden retriever-"Maggie". How much should I exercise her without over doing it? I've read a few things regarding their joints so I don't want to exercise her too hard.

Exercise

Hello
I think that now your dog is 11 months old he should be doing at least two 45-1 hour walks a day -- they can do a lot more than you think and he/she will be calmer and well behaved. Just don't over run him. I often use an extendable lead so they have freedom but can't chase rabbits or birds and then I can control the amount of running in the park. Its only while their bones are developing you need to be really careful. Talk to a vet about exercise. It's what I have always done and never had any problems.
Hope this is helpful.
