Interview with Fabian

fabian, singer, golden retriever, golden retriever dogs

Fabian Anthony Forte is a man of innumerable talents. Better known by his moniker Fabian, he is perhaps the original American Idol of the 50s and 60s. His soothing voice and devilish good looks mixed with his ebullient personality were the perfect combination to drive all of his fans wild.

Fabian has had multiple accolades throughout his life. At 15, he won the Silver Award as "The Promising Male Vocalist of 1958". By 18, he had recorded dozens of hit singles, eight albums and earned gold records for "Turn Me Loose" and "Tiger" and a gold album for "The Fabulous Fabian". Here, you can check out some of Fabian's Music.

Although he now has over 30 films to his credit, he made his screen debut in 1959 in "Hound Dog Man." He then made "Five Weeks In A Balloon" and "The Longest Day". He worked with two great screen giants--John Wayne in "North To Alaska" and Bing Crosby in "High Time." Fabian has also worked with the incomparable James Stewart in two films--"Mr. Hobbs Takes A Vacation" and "Dear Brigette." He learned to surf with Tab Hunter in "Ride The Wild Surf" which has become a cult classic.

More recently he has been interviewed by Michelle Pfeiffer in the 1996 film, "Up Close & Personal". He received one of show business' highest accolades when he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on January 8, 2002. He was recognized for over 40 years of live performance with the famed boulevard's 2188th star.

Over the years Fabian has proven himself to be an exemplary singer, performer, actor and producer--not to mention father and husband. Through the years he has shown versatility, perseverance, and professionalism. To read more about Fabian and his career, please visit his official website here .

Fabian continues to perform with two of his Philadelphia buddies, Frankie Avalon and Bobby Rydell as "The Golden Boys" in one of the longest running shows of its genre today. In fact Fabian was on tour when we requested this interview. Despite his busy schedule he was happy and ready to chat with us about one of his most ardent fans, his Golden Retriever Max.

The Interview

1) Fabian, thanks a lot for taking the time for this interview, even though you're busy touring in New York. I know you have a Golden you adore named Maxwell. How did you and Maxwell get together? Have you ever had a Golden Retriever before, or is Maxwell your first?

Max--he's my main man! He was my wife's parents dog and we shared custody for a while. Let me explain. When my wife's parents ran their car dealership during the week, Andrea and I would take care of Max. On the weekends, we would give him back to Rich and Gladys. Then, when Gladys had several leg surgeries, they asked if we would take care of Max full time since they were afraid he might jump on her and he has stayed with us ever since.

I have never had another Golden Retriever before and there will never be another one like Max!

>2) You are busy nowadays performing with a couple of your buddies as "The Golden Boys". What a coincidence that while you are a Golden Boy for the rest of the world, you have your own "Golden Boy" Maxwell at home! While you have innumerable fans all over, he is undoubtedly one of your most devoted fans, right?

Yes we joke that Max is the Original Golden Boy! I do still travel working with The Golden Boys Show and this year we are celebrating our Silver Anniversary, so not Golden Yet!

3) How would you define your relationship with Maxwell? Is he your best friend, child, equal? Or is he the boss...?

He's definitely my best friend and the boss.

4) I know your wife Andrea is a model and a former Miss Pennsylvania-USA and Miss West Virginia, and most importantly, she is also a big Golden fan! Do you feel that Maxwell relates in the same way to you as he does to her? Is Maxwell partial to his mom? (Andrea, please feel free to answer this, or any other question for that matter as well.)

Fabian: He loves his mom. Since I am away alot, I can see that he has a need to be around her. But, we have a bond that is very close. I don't know what I would do without him.

Andrea: I used to have a teacup poodle and I said I would never get close to any more animals. Then Max came into my life (complete opposite of my poodle) and he is the other love of my life.

5) How has Maxwell blended into your lifestyle? What are some of his (and your) favorite things to do together?

In the summer he goes swimming in our pond and tries to chase our ducks. That's a favorite thing for him to do. He is always with me when I am outside on my ATV and he is always with us. Right next to us in the kitchen when we are cooking, laying by us when we watch movies. The real answer is we have blended into Max's life!

6) If you could adopt one characteristic of Maxwell's, which would it be and why?

His humanity.

7) Is there anything else your would like to share about your Maxwell? (Any funny story, any memorable incident...)

He loves to chase golf balls and bring them back to me.. It's really funny to watch. Oh yeah, we drove him to New Jersey once when we went to see my brother so that he could see the ocean. We wanted him to be able to walk on the beach and run in the ocean once in his life. We were so happy that Max was able to do this. It was a memorable day for all of us we will never forget! Plus, the time he stole a sausage from the grill!WE LOVE MAX!

Fabian and Andrea, I really want to thank you both for taking the time to answer some questions about Maxwell...he sounds absolutely wonderful and I can see the deep bond you have with him. The place Max has created in your hearts is a testament to the truly magical nature of this breed!
