Frontline for Dogs -- Effective Flea Control

Frontline for Dogs, Advantage, K-9 Advantix...you might have heard of these available flea products. But which is best?

Flea control has been a top priority for me since I found out that at some point or another most dogs get fleas. And remember, your dogs' getting fleas has nothing to do with the cleanliness of your home and surroundings. Dogs pick up fleas on walks, from grass, from other dogs, in the dog park, and what not -- there are a lot of circumstances not in your control. There are a few things that are very much in your control, and that is what happens to those fleas after they get on your beloved canine!

First, let me give you some brief information on fleas and the importance of controlling them. As I have already mentioned above, for most dogs, getting fleas is an unfortunate fact of life. Often you can't see the fleas on your dog as they are quite small.

Fleas are tiny brown insects (often the size of a pinhead) that are very resilient and inflict their damage by biting your dog's skin. These reactions range from the mild (itching) to the severe (inflammation and infection). Some dogs can be quite sensitive to the proteins in a flea's saliva and will have severe itching throughout the body even from a single flea.

Contrary to popular belief, fleas do not have wings and so cannot fly. Instead they have strong back legs that allow them to jump from animal to animal or from the environment onto the animal.

Ever since knowing about fleas I have wanted to prevent my dogs from ever getting bothered by them. I have tried several products and have concluded that Frontline for Dogs is the most effective in flea control.

Way back, when Aisha was a puppy, I used to apply Advantage on her. That too, was quite effective in terms of control and prevention of fleas, but it really seemed to bother her -- maybe she didn't like the smell, or it irritated her skin... Whatever it was, the moment I opened the tube of Advantage, she would try to slink away from me, and after I put it on, she would rub herself around on the carpet trying to get it off her.

I tried Frontline instead, and it really worked well for Aisha. I have continued to use that for Daizy as well, and she also has had no problems with it.

So I very much recommend Frontline for Dogs as it has worked extremely well for my dogs. When you get Frontline, make sure that you buy the one appropriate for the weight of your dog. In researching places to buy Frontline, I have found that Merial Frontline Plus Flea and Tick Control for Dogs and Puppies is very reasonably priced on Amazon.

Our precious Goldens are an integral part of our homes (not to mention hearts!), and so keeping them healthy and free of fleas and ticks is necessary both for them and for the humans they own.
