Golden Retriever Muscles

Last night our golden retriever who is only 4 years old, suddenly could not jump on the bed where she usually sleeps. She moans when she is laying down trying to stand. It is very distressing to see...any ideas?

Response from Golden Retriever Magic:

Your 4 year old is in the prime of her youth and this is definitely not normal. I can understand how distressing it must be for you to see her like this.

In the best case scenario, she may have pulled a muscle. This often improves with rest and anti-inflammatory medication that the vet can recommend.

However, there are a lot worse case scenarios as well. She may have the beginnings of hip dysplasia, something that Goldens are unfortunately prone to. She needs a vet appointment right away. Often a few simple diagnostic tests (such as xrays) can determine the cause of her pain.
