KC, the greatest companion a couple can have.

by Derek
(Mississauga,ont. canada)

KC was born Aug. 19, 2009. We knew we had something special when he sat quietly on Jean's lap for the 3hr. ride home and just looked out the window!

After 2 days, and only one accident he peed on the floor, he was house broken perfectly. We are seniors, so were able to spend a lot of time with him.

His gift to us was a new lease on life. He insisted on walks twice a day, making me lose the weight i needed to lose, lol. When I introduced him to the leash free park, he excelled in retrieving the ball and we now spend 2 hours a day there. Never have I seen a more sociable animal than my KC. He loves everybody, but is partial to small children. When they come on the scene, he crawls to them and rolls over to have his belly rubbed. I find that quite amazing as he weighs in at 101 lbs but he is so gentle with kids. At our trailer, and the boat is at the dock, you never go on the boat unless KC is on it too!

When I raised German Shepherds years ago, basic obedience training was given using positive reinforcement and sharp commands. With KC, I just talk to him and he understands almost immediately what I need him to do. The only correction word I ever have to use is HEY, spoken quietly. His head immediately turns to me and he stops what he is doing.

To say he is a super dog is an understatement (but I guess I am a little biased lol!]. Probably the only negative is the generous amount of fur he deposits around the house twice a year, even with daily brushings, but what he brings to us in love, companionship, and loyalty, far out shines that minor flaw.

When we introduced a 6mo. old tabby to the family, he just took it in stride and now they play together constantly.

I would recommend a Golden to anyone who worries about if their dog will hurt the family - Goldens just don't have any meanness in them. They are a gracious, respectful, loyal, and loving pet!

Two of a kind!
by: Bruce Skakle

You could have written your comments about our dog. You have described my Ziva exactly, except our 3 year old Golden is female. She is so calm for a Golden compared to how playful and frisky our other Goldens have been. Ziva goes with us everywhere and will do anything with our grandkids and other children, too.
We have a leash law where we live but I rarely have even a collar on her because she never leaves our property. When we go for walks as she never leaves my side. People think we are crazy for talking to Ziva like she is a person but like KC, she seems to know just what we are saying and responds to what we ask her to do.
I guess Ziva's only fault is she has learned how to open the door and she brings in her friends (alive), such as a red squirrel, mice, and birds. Ziva even keeps the cats away from the squirrel as it eats the cat's food in the kitchen. When it has finished eating they head outdoors to play. I thought she was one of a kind but I'm so glad you have found a similar companion in KC.
Sometimes I think Ziva has been here before because she just does things that we have never trained her to do and we've had her since she was just a puppy.
Give KC a big hug from us. Take care.
