Middle of the night barking

Hi everyone,

For the past 2 weeks my 8 month old golden, Baxter, has started barking in the night (times vary). Not really sure why... We get up and take him outside but when we attempt to put him back in his crate, he continues to bark. We have no idea why he started barking in the first place .. He used to go at least 6-7 hrs every night... We end up taking him out of his crate so he doesn't wake the kids with his barking and then go out to the living room where he lays down and goes back to sleep most times. What is up with this behaviour? I am not ready to have him not in his crate at night. But I am also not going to continue letting him wake me just go sleep in the living room... HELP !!

Hello. I have had three Goldens from a puppy and if you imagine being taken from your mum and your cozy little family to snuggle up to, you may understand what your puppy may be going through. Goldens are very cuddly sociable dogs, so if you could bring yourself to put the crate in your bed room just so you can gently talk to him when he thinks he is alone it really works. But remember to keep your voice gentle. It doesn't usually take long to work--with one of my dogs it was two nights. It felt like a trust thing to me and when my dogs decided I wasn't going anywhere they settled and slept where their beds are put. It really is worth trying and I hope it works for you. Good Luck.
