Ruby (KC name Angels Beauty)

by Margo Dunlop
(Glasgow, Scotland)

Ruby came to us through unfortunate circumstances. She was my sister's dog. Unfortunately my sister passed away very suddenly in August of this year. Although Ruby knew my husband and I very well and we often walked her, we were a bit anxious taking her home. We have two cats - Heather who is 22 and Badger who is 15. We were very unsure as to how they would react, being rescue cats and a little neurotic.

We were really anxious to keep Ruby as it was what my sister wanted, but could not afford the chance of either the cats or Ruby being distressed with each other.

We need not have worried - Ruby's gentle loving nature won them over in a matter of days. Heather, has become her shadow, and they lie out in the garden together. Heather has taken to sleeping in Ruby's bed, and Badger just pretends she is not there. Must be very hard, considering the size of her compared to him, as he is quite a small cat.

Ruby has given us a new lease of life, walks on the beach, and wherever we go Ruby goes too. She loves the car and gets in straight away, harness on. Seems to know we are going somewhere she will like.

She is a beautiful animal, and although she knew us well, as we visited often, it is magic having her with us, and is a great source of love in our grief. The picture here is Ruby after a walk and swim on the beach.

Ruby By Billy
by: Billy

I had grown attached to Ruby during Nancy's illness while walking her through the estate to the squinty bridge then back home along the path at the side of the River Clyde.

When Nancy passed away i felt the course of action was for Ruby to come and stay with myself and Margo her mistresses sister and have had no regrets in doing so as she is the most loving and obedient animal.

Since Ruby has been with us my cat Heather who has been with us 21 years has been diagnosed with liver problems and wont be with us much longer so having Ruby may be a comfort when the time comes for her to pass on to kitty heaven.

Ruby
by: Katie

Ruby is a remarkable dog. I remember the day we all went in the car down to Hull to collect Ruby from a breeder who had no use for her anymore. She sat so good all the way back home. So patient and trusting. My mum loved retrievers and after her previous dog Sam passed away we knew we had to fill that void. She proved to be a wonderful loyal loving dog and was at my mums side daily until she passed away on 14th August this year. The first thought was that we would have to take Ruby home to stay with us and my own 2 dogs. At that point my mum's sister and brother-in-law Margo and Billy said they would like Ruby to come and live with them. They had never had a dog before because they worked full time so it was a massive change for them and a wee bit uncertainty as to how it would work especially with 2 cats at home. We need not have worried because Ruby fitted in almost immediately. She was already attached to uncle Billy because he had regularly taken her for walks when he went to visit mum. It was wonderful how Ruby seemed so at home and although I'm sure she missed my mum she could not be in a better place. She has flourished since moving in and now enjoys visits to the seaside and long walks that my mum was not able to do due to ill health. There is no doubt that she couldn't be in a better place. Now uncle Billy and Ruby are attached at the hip and even have the same wiggle lol!

Ruby
by: Colin

It was my aunt's wishes before she passed away that her dog Ruby should be looked after by my mum & dad and I am so pleased that it has happened. Ruby has remained in the family, giving us all a happy reminder of my aunt Nancy, and my kids adore her. She will see out the rest of her days being loved & cared for.

Ruby
by: Angela Dunlop

The words in this post do not give it justice - Ruby is like a gentle giant and is a beautiful dog. Ruby has been given a home by two very special and loving people who dont realise how special they are. Their grandchildren (my children) are over the moon that their grandparents have taken Ruby and given her a good home where she will be loved and cared for.

The children look forward to their visits to see the dog and understand that by having Ruby there is like having a part of their Grans sister with them always. I look forward to the memories the children will have spending time with their grandparents and Ruby - thats what is so special.
