Thanks
by: Debbie

Thank you very much. Max is getting better. I've spoken with my trainers and the plan is of course to have separate bowls but the goal is to have obedient dogs who will eventually eat in harmony and respect so at least I know what to aim for.

Max will eat first because he is sick and sometimes I have to feed him and he has lost weight but my recollection of Max as a puppy is that he finished eating before I could blink so I suspect this little one will be much the same.

I'll just take it one day at a time with a lot of love and patience. (Somebody may have to feed me!)

Feed the Alpha
by: Golden Retriever Magic

Hi Debbie,

So sorry to hear that Max has been ill. Aspiration pneumonia can be quite severe and I'm happy to hear that he is getting better.

It's going to be a bit crazy for you when the new puppy comes, what with Max being ill now. In regard to your question about feeding, I would recommend having separate feeding bowls for each Golden.

You should feed Max first (use a gate to keep the puppy out of the feeding area if she insists on beating Max to the feeding bowl). After Max has eaten in peace, then you can feed the puppy.

This will hopefully set up a heirarchy such that Max is the alpha/dominant dog.

Hope everything works out.
